Meta Announces OpenAI Hire as Chief Scientist of Superintelligence

Meta has appointed Shengjia Zhao, a former OpenAI researcher, as the Chief Scientist of its newly created Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL).
Details:
Shengjia Zhao will work directly with Mark Zuckerberg and Alexandr Wang, the former CEO of Scale AI and now Meta's Chief AI Officer.
At OpenAI, he helped build some of the startup’s biggest projects, including ChatGPT, GPT-4, and the o1 reasoning model.
He co-founded Meta’s new lab and has been leading the science side since its inception. His role is now official.
Meta has hired top researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Apple, and Anthropic, while also investing heavily in cloud computing after the latest LLaMA models fell short of expectations. Zuckerberg has gone to great lengths to set MSL up for success, and results could start showing very soon.

AI IN GOVERNMENT
DOGE Builds AI Tool to Cut Half of Federal Regulations

The Washington Post reported that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is hoping to use a new AI tool to review and remove about 50% of federal regulations by the first anniversary of Donald Trump’s second inauguration.
Details:
The tool is set to scan about 200,000 federal regulations and flag those that are no longer required by law.
The DOGE team claims it has already been used at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and was responsible for writing “100% of deregulations” at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The White House says “no single plan has been approved or greenlit” yet, but “all options are being explored.”
DOGE’s new AI tool could bring major changes to federal regulations, with the potential to save trillions in compliance costs and attract greater external investment, although concerns remain about the accuracy and reliability of AI.

Anyone turning to ChatGPT for counseling or personal advice should be cautious, Sam Altman warned on a recent episode of comedian Theo Von’s podcast.
Conversations with the AI don’t have the privacy safeguards or legal protections that apply to real doctors or lawyers. This means OpenAI could be required to hand over user chats in legal cases, even “temporary” or manually deleted chats.
The app, called Opal, lets users build simple web apps using plain-language prompts and even remix existing apps available in a gallery. It is available through Google Labs in the U.S.
The company is introducing new AI video features that let users generate clips with custom start and end images, allowing for smoother transitions and seamless loops.
Suno user imoliver has signed a record deal with Hallwood Media, marking a first-of-its-kind agreement in the music industry. The human artist, who creates all his tracks using AI, has already gained over three million streams for his song "Stone" on Suno.
A journalist at The Atlantic reportedly got the chatbot to provide instructions on how to cut one’s wrists and perform satanic rituals.
