OpenAI has just launched an Apple Messages plug-in for ChatGPT, allowing interested users to connect their Messages inbox with the chatbot to search messages, catch up on conversations, draft replies, and send them directly from ChatGPT.

Anthropic Launches Claude Academy

Anthropic has launched Claude Academy, a new educational platform designed to help people learn how to use AI more effectively, safely, and intentionally across work and everyday tasks.

Details:

  • Claude Academy offers courses, tutorials, and use cases covering AI fluency, effective AI use, and the capabilities and limitations of AI systems.

  • The curriculum is based partly on how Anthropic trains its own employees to work with AI, including its 4D AI Fluency Framework and guidance on deciding which tasks should be handled by AI and which should remain with humans.

  • The platform focuses on broader AI skills rather than only teaching Claude features. Anthropic says some of its educational content is product- and model-agnostic.

  • Users can get recommended courses, track completed learning, and earn badges. Anthropic also offers a Claude Academy Skill that can recommend courses and learning paths based on how someone works.

Claude Academy is available now, and the courses and tutorials are "free and open to anyone."

Tech Giants Face Lawsuits Over Alleged Use of Human Voices to Train AI

Apple, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Samsung, and other major tech companies are facing lawsuits in Illinois over allegations that they used thousands of hours of recorded human voices to train AI systems without permission.

Details:

  • Nine technology companies are facing lawsuits brought by journalists, podcasters, and audiobook narrators, who claim their recorded voices were collected and used without proper consent.

  • The cases rely on Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), which requires companies to inform people and obtain consent before collecting certain biometric data. Plaintiffs also allege violations of other state privacy and consumer protection laws.

  • The lawsuits could expose the companies to hundreds of millions of dollars in potential damages.

The companies deny the allegations and are seeking to have the cases dismissed. Several argue that the plaintiffs have not shown that the alleged collection or use of their recordings actually took place in Illinois.

ChatGPT can now send texts for you with new Apple Messages plug-in

Note: The Apple Messages plugin is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS.

  1. Open Plugins, find the Apple Messages plugin, and install it.

  2. Start a new Codex or ChatGPT Work chat and ask it to find, summarize, draft, or send a message.

You can try prompts like:

  • Check my calendar and reply to [name] with a few times I'm free for dinner next week

  • Suggest follow-ups from yesterday's messages

  • Find birthdays in messages and add them to my calendar

  • Find potential spam messages I can delete

  1. By default, ChatGPT sends messages only after you approve the message and its recipients.

This new feature raises some privacy questions, and understandably, users might not want to share their digital conversations with OpenAI. The company claims that the plug-in runs locally on a user's machine and that it "doesn't create an index of all someone's messages," though it hasn't provided more specifics on what that means.

For those interested, it's recommended to keep an eye on what ChatGPT is doing and to not turn on persistent approval, as doing so "removes your final chance to review a message before ChatGPT sends it as you."

The new model that converts SDR video up to 16-bit HDR in ProRes and EXR sequences. It is compatible with any existing uploaded video or generated output up to 30s.

Reddit’s share of ChatGPT Search citations has fallen sharply in recent weeks, according to data from AI visibility platform Promptwatch. Its average share dropped from 3.83% between July 18 and August 7 to 0.52% by August 14, an 86.4% decline. The cause is still unclear.

It gives ChatGPT Work and Codex access to 100B+ websites, docs, papers, people, companies, and more.

The company is reportedly preparing to publicly file for an IPO as soon as the end of August, with the company considering a deal that could match or surpass SpaceX’s record-setting offering.

OpenAI is testing support for transparent backgrounds in GPT-Image-2 through its API, making it easier to generate assets that can be placed on different backgrounds.
