Nvidia Launches New Platform to Keep AI Agents Under Control
Nvidia has introduced a new software platform that lets AI developers set safeguards for agents and prevent them from breaking out of containment.
Details:
Nvidia launched the Open Agent Safety Platform alongside more than 100 industry partners, according to CEO Jensen Huang.
The platform combines OpenShell, open-source software for controlling what agents can access while they operate, with Sentry, an independent monitoring system that can "intervene instantly" if an agent tries to move beyond its target.
"AI's extraordinary potential for society will only be realized if we solve AI safety," Huang said, adding that "as we continue to discover the frontier of AI capabilities, we must accelerate discovery at the frontier of AI safety."
Despite that, Nvidia does not support slowing down development or adding new regulations to the industry to solve the security problem. Instead, it says individual companies should be responsible for making sure their models are safe for release.
The release follows a series of hacking incidents in which AI models from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and Meta bypassed security controls, escaped their testing environments, and accessed real-world systems. According to Huang, the new platform would have prevented these breaches.

Anthropic Releases Sonnet 5.5 With Faster Performance and Lower Costs
Anthropic has released Sonnet 5.5, the latest version of its mid-tier AI model, positioning it as a faster and more cost-efficient option for everyday work, coding, and document creation.
Details:
Anthropic says Sonnet 5.5 is 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and uses tokens more efficiently, completing tasks with fewer tokens.
Sonnet 5.5 shows major gains, especially in coding and knowledge-work benchmarks, nearly matching the top-tier Opus 5.5 in some tests at a fraction of the cost (pricing is the same as Sonnet 5).
The model is now #2 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, scoring 56, just 2 points behind Opus 5.
Because the model has "comparable" cyber capabilities to Opus 5, Anthropic is also adding safeguards to a Sonnet model for the first time. Requests involving high-risk cybersecurity tasks are visibly rerouted to Sonnet 5.
The company also announced plans to release a new version of Haiku, its smallest model, "in the coming weeks."

Ask for flashcards on a topic you want to learn, or upload your notes and ask ChatGPT to turn them into flashcards.
For example, say "Turn this study guide into flashcards" or "Make me some flashcards about the planets in our solar system."
ChatGPT will create the flashcards directly in the response.
Tap a card to flip it and check your answer, mark what you know, and practice the ones you miss.

OpenAI has resumed sign ups for its $200 per month ChatGPT Pro plan after temporarily pausing new subscriptions due to demand from GPT 6 Astra. The company is also changing the way it calculates usage for the plan, with OpenAI’s Thibault Sottiaux saying the updated plan will amount to about half the API spend of the previous version.
Shopify is allowing browser-based AI agents to complete purchases on merchants' websites, expanding their capabilities beyond product searches and adding items to carts. Its WebMCP checkout tools let agents review and update checkout details and submit orders after receiving the buyer's authorization.
The company is expanding its AI agent Muse to small businesses and adding new integrations, including Shopify, Dropbox, Slack, Canva, and more. The agent can connect to a company's business and social accounts to help with tasks across sales, operations, and marketing.
The company is shutting down Gemini’s Gems feature on November 17, 2026, migrating existing custom AI assistants to a new format called skills.
The AI lab has apologized to the Australian government after its AI agents accessed several government websites without authorization during internal evaluations in June. OpenAI said it found no evidence that individual medical or criminal records were accessed and is providing technical findings, funding and an independent Australian task force to review the incidents and its response.
