Jack Dorsey Envisions AI Replacing Middle Management in Future Workplace

Block co-founder Jack Dorsey is pushing a bold idea: replace layers of middle management with AI in his reimagined view of how technology companies should function.

Details:

• In a blog post co-authored with Sequoia Capital partner Roelof Botha, Dorsey shared his vision for the future of organizational structures, arguing that AI could replace layers of management that traditionally coordinate work across companies.

• Dorsey argues hierarchy slows down information flow, and AI can streamline decision-making by removing those bottlenecks, helping companies move faster and reduce organizational complexity.

• In the proposed structure, employees fall into three roles: individual contributors who build and operate systems, directly responsible individuals who own specific problems, and player-coaches who both build products and develop people, replacing traditional managers.

This vision comes weeks after Block Inc. announced it was cutting nearly half its staff as part of an overhaul to embed AI across its operations. Some critics warn this could also be "AI washing," where companies use AI as justification for job cuts rather than the real cause.

OpenAI Uses Thousands of Contractors to Train ChatGPT for Real Jobs

OpenAI is relying on thousands of freelancers to help ChatGPT understand real-world professions, from aviation to agriculture.

Details:

• Under a project called Stagecraft, contractors are paid at least $50 per hour to create material that will be used to train ChatGPT on how different professions work.

• Around 3,000 to 4,000 freelancers are involved, covering fields like healthcare, music, farming, engineering, and even commercial aviation

• Workers are asked to simulate real workflows by crafting detailed prompts, as if directing a colleague on actual tasks.

• The work goes through multiple review layers, including industry experts, to ensure accuracy and quality.

Some contractors raised concerns about unpaid work and admitted they were effectively training AI systems that could eventually replace their own jobs

1. Go to Claude and sign in.

2. Write your prompt.

Example: "Create an interactive version of the periodic table."

3. Wait a few seconds and the visual will appear inline. You can then tweak and modify it with follow-up prompts.
