Google's Gemini Powers New U.S. Military AI Platform "GenAI.mil"

The GenAI.mil platform, the first generative-AI system rolled out across the United States Department of Defense, now uses Google Cloud Gemini for Government as its inaugural model. The move marks a major shift as frontier AI tools become core to military workflows.

Details:

  • Gemini for Government has been selected to power GenAI.mil across roughly 3 million civilian and military personnel.

  • The platform supports secure, unclassified tasks, like summarizing policy handbooks, generating compliance checklists, extracting key contract terms, and creating risk assessments.

  • All data remains within a secure, IL5-certified environment; inputs are not used to train public models.

  • According to defense leadership, GenAI.mil aims to embed AI into daily operations, from document processing to planning, with plans to expand to additional models in the future.

The deployment is part of a strategic push to modernize the DoD, integrating AI into both administrative and operational workflows to improve efficiency and accelerate decision-making.

OpenAI, Anthropic & Block Launch Agentic AI Foundation to Standardize the "Agent Era"

A major new open-source group under Linux Foundation, the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), has just launched, backed by top AI players. The goal: avoid fragmented, proprietary "agent silos" by building shared standards and tools for AI agents to interoperate.

Details:

  • Founding members OpenAI, Anthropic, and Block contributed core components: AGENTS.md (OpenAI), MCP, Model Context Protocol (Anthropic), and Goose framework (Block).

  • MCP provides a universal standard for linking AI models to tools, data, and apps; Goose offers a local-first agent framework; AGENTS.md provides a consistent format for agent instructions.

  • The AAIF's mission: neutral, vendor-agnostic governance, no single company controls direction. That helps avoid locked-in AI stacks and encourages community collaboration.

  • Broad industry support: other backers include big players such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cloudflare, and Bloomberg, underscoring a major push toward shared "agent infrastructure."

If adoption succeeds, developers and enterprises will waste less time building custom connectors. Instead, they'll get predictable, interoperable agent behavior across codebases, accelerating real-world deployment of "agentic AI."

Build a Professional AI Headshot App in 10 Minutes

  1. Go to your AI coding tool and paste this prompt. (You can use Cursor with Claude Code)

Create a spec.md for a professional headshot AI app where I can upload a photo, select from one of three styles (corporate classic, creative professional, executive portrait), and then get a professional headshot that I can directly compare to my original photo.

Include the requirements, tech stack, and 2 milestones. First milestone is to set up the UI and 2nd is to add Google’s nano banana image to image API: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/image-generation. 

Use React for frontend and Express for backend.

  1. To make a minimal, testable UI before integrating the API. Instruct the AI to
    “Build milestone 1 and run localhost. Use TailwindCSS 3.”

    • However, the actual image generation won’t work because we haven’t integrated the API yet.

  2. Ask AI to create a prompt.md file with different styles:

You can paste a headshot that you like into AI and ask it to “Create an AI prompt to recreate this style.”

For example, Corporate classic style:

Transform this photo into a polished profile shot maintaining the exact facial features and identity. Subject framed chest-up with headroom, eyes looking directly at camera while body angles slightly away. White t-shirt with black leather jacket, open smile. Neutral studio background. High-angle perspective with soft, diffused lighting creating gentle catchlights. 85mm lens aesthetic with shallow depth of field - sharp focus on eyes, soft bokeh background. Natural skin texture with visible hair detail. Bright, airy feel. Make subject look great and accurate to their original appearance.

  1. For milestone 2 next. Begin by getting a Gemini API key by going to Google AI Studio → Get API key → Create API key:

    • With the acquired API key, ask AI to build milestone 2 and use the API key in the prompt:

Build milestone 2. Use this API key: [YOUR_KEY]

  1. And that's it! You've just built your first AI headshot photo app!
