OpenAI Tightens Sora 2 Safeguards on Deepfakes After Pressure From Bryan Cranston and SAG-AFTRA

OpenAI has strengthened its safeguards to prevent the unauthorized replication of individuals’ voices and likenesses after Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston raised concerns over deepfake videos generated with its Sora 2 video technology.

Details:

  • After seeing a wave of AI-generated deepfakes of himself flooding social media shortly after the debut of Sora 2, Cranston approached the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA to voice his concerns.

  • On Monday, UTA and CAA — two of Hollywood’s biggest talent agencies — co-signed a statement with OpenAI, SAG-AFTRA, and the Association of Talent Agents, stating that the incident involving Cranston was an error and that all parties would work together to protect actors’ “right to determine how and whether they can be simulated.”

  • OpenAI clarified that living individuals must provide explicit consent or "opt in" to appear in Sora 2, and that the company actively blocks unauthorized depictions of public figures. It also pledged to respond swiftly to any future reports of misuse.

  • Sora 2 does allow users to generate “historical figures,” however OpenAI recently agreed to let representatives of “recently deceased” public figures request that their likeness be blocked from the platform.

The actor appreciated the rapid response, saying he is “grateful to OpenAI for its policy and for improving its guardrails.” Meanwhile, the issue has drawn attention to the NO FAKES Act, a bill currently being considered by Congress that seeks to ban the creation and distribution of AI-generated replicas of individuals without their consent, a proposal that OpenAI has publicly supported.

Anthropic Brings Claude Code to the Web

Anthropic launched a web app for Claude Code, letting developers create and manage several AI coding agents from their browser.

Details:

  • Claude Code for web is rolling out at Claude.ai under the Code tab for Pro ($20/month) and Max ($100/$200) plans.

  • The startup claims that running Claude Code in the cloud allows teams to “run multiple tasks in parallel across different repositories from a single interface and ship faster with automatic PR creation and clear change summaries.”

  • It also noted that Claude Code tasks on the cloud will have the same level of security as the earlier version, running in an “isolated sandbox environment with network and filesystem restrictions.”

In addition to making Claude Code available on the web, the startup is releasing a preview of the agent in its iOS app, though it notes that the integration is still in an early stage and says it hopes “to quickly refine the mobile experience based on your feedback.”

How to save money with ChatGPT Agent Mode

With ChatGPT’s Agent Mode, you can automate small money-saving tasks that add up quickly.

In ChatGPT, click the “+” icon in your chat window and select “Agent Mode.” Once turned on, the AI can take limited actions on your behalf.

*Note: Agent mode is currently only available for paid plans.

  1. Hunt down the best takeout deals

Ask your agent to compare local delivery prices and meal deals. It can scan apps and restaurant sites to find family bundles or discounts near you.

“Find the best pizza or sushi deals near me for under $30 total.”

  1. Find the cheapest gas nearby

Share your ZIP code with the agent, and it can check live fuel prices and map out the cheapest route.

“Show me the lowest gas prices within 10 miles of 08691 and sort by station rating.”

  1. Stop paying for unused subscriptions

Forgotten subscriptions can drain your budget. You can get the agent to scan your inbox for renewal notices, summarize upcoming charges, and remind you before anything auto-renews.

“Search my Gmail inbox for any emails about subscription renewals, auto‑renew notices, or recurring billing. Summarize each relevant email with the service name, renewal date, and cost. Then compile the information into a list of my upcoming renewals.”

  1. Discover free or low-cost local activities

Avoid expensive weekend outings by letting your agent find community events, outdoor festivals, or free family fun nearby.

“Find five family activities under $20 happening near me this weekend.”

  1. Track active promo codes automatically

Before checking out online, have your agent search for current promo codes and reward offers from your favorite stores. Even a small discount adds up over time.

“Look up active promo codes for Target, Walmart and [retailer] promo codes before I complete my order.”
