Apple Partners with Anthropic to Build AI-Powered Coding Platform

Apple is partnering with Anthropic to build a āvibe-codingā software platform that will use generative AI to write, edit, and test code, Bloomberg reports.
Details:
The new tool is an updated version of Appleās programming software, Xcode, but now itās powered by Anthropic's Claude Sonnet model.
It is being rolled out internally, with no confirmation of a public release yet.
This internal version features a chat interface that allows programmers to request code or get help with coding. It can also test user interfaces and assist engineers in locating and fixing bugs.
Amid intense competition among major tech firms to dominate the fast-growing generative AI sector, Apple is increasingly partnering with established AI companies. This time, itās partnering with Anthropic, whose Claude models are especially popular for their coding capabilities on vibe-coding platforms like Cursor and Windsurf.

Google Plans to Roll Out Its Gemini Chatbot to Children Under 13

Google is expanding access to its Gemini AI apps, allowing kids to use them on Android devices monitored through Family Link parental controls.
Details:
Kids under 13 will be able to enable and access Gemini on their own under Google Family Link, which is designed for parents to keep tabs on their kidsā device usage, set limits, and protect them from harmful content.
Parents are being notified via email about this new feature, which is designed to help children with tasks like homework or storytime.
The company warns in the same email that āGemini can make mistakes,ā and kids āmay encounter content you donāt want them to see.ā It also advises parents to talk to their kids, explain that the AI isnāt human, and tell them not to share sensitive information with the chatbot.
While parents can turn off access via Family Link, there are still concerns, as chatbots remain imperfect and could potentially be harmful. Still, tech companies are eager to introduce the technology and capture younger audiences as the AI race heats up.

Anysphere, the developer behind the AI coding assistant Cursor, has reportedly secured $900 million in a new funding round led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel.
This investment elevates the company's valuation to approximately $9 billion, a significant increase from its previous $2.5 billion valuation in January.
During the U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust trial against Google, it was revealed that publisher opt-outs restrictions applies solely to DeepMind's models.
DeepMind Vice President Eli Collins confirmed that Google's search division retains the ability to train its AI systems on the opted-out data for search-related purposes .
Freepik, in collaboration with Fal.ai, has introduced F Lite, a new open-source text-to-image AI model designed with copyright safety in mind.
It was trained exclusively on approximately 80 million commercially licensed images from Freepik's own collection, ensuring that all generated content is legally compliant.
Acoording to Murray Shanahan, a senior researcher at Google DeepMind, incorporating polite language in promptsāsuch as saying "please" and "thank you"ācan enhance the quality of responses from AI models.
Shanahan notes that clear and friendly phrasing may lead to better results, although the effectiveness can vary depending on the specific model and context.
