AI IN GAMING

‘Oasis’ Turns Images Into Playable 3D Worlds 🎮

A new AI model called Oasis has garnered attention by generating a playable version of Minecraft-like gameplay using only images.

Details:

  • Developed by Decart in collaboration with Etched, Oasis is referred to as "the world's first real-time AI world model."

  • Oasis creates gameplay based on user input and visual data, it uses keyboard and mouse inputs to generate each gameplay frame instantly at approximately 20 frames per second.

  • The system mimics physics, game mechanics, and graphics internally, providing a dynamic gaming experience that adjusts based on the player’s interactions.

  • While impressive, Oasis has its flaws. The game looks like a low-res, glitchy Minecraft, with issues in object permanence and changing environments.

Although still early, Oasis signifies a major advancement in AI-driven game development. You can try it yourself by uploading your own source images for the AI to turn into playable game worlds using the "Custom Worlds" feature.

Meta Opens Llama AI Model Up To US Military

Meta has announced a significant move by allowing the US military and defense contractors to use its Llama AI model for national security purposes.

Details:

  • Meta is teaming up with companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and IBM to provide Llama to government entities.

  • The AI model is intended to be used for purposes such as “streamlining complicated logistics and planning, tracking terrorist financing, or strengthening our cyber defenses.”

  • Meta maintains restrictions on using Llama for direct military and espionage activities.

  • The company claims that Oracle is already using Llama to enhance aircraft maintenance, while Lockheed Martin is using it to generate code and analyze data.

Other AI companies are partnering with the military as well; reportedly, the US Africa Command has reportedly purchased cloud services from Microsoft, gaining access to OpenAI's tools, while Google DeepMind has a cloud computing contract with the Israeli government.

How to analyze PDFs with Claude AI

Claude’s new Visual PDFs feature is now available in beta and offers the ability to view and analyze PDF files. The model can interpret not only text in a PDF but also images, charts, and graphs.

Note: The feature is only available when using Claude Sonnet 3.5, which is currently only accessible to paid users. The PDF cannot exceed 32 MB or 100 pages, nor can it be encrypted or password-protected.

Here’s how to use this new PDF feature:

  1. Log into Claude

  2. Enable the visual PDF analysis feature preview,

Click on your initials in the lower left corner and select “Feature Preview” from the dropdown menu. In the next menu, turn on the visual PDF analysis toggle.

  1. Return to the main screen and start a new chat. Click the paperclip icon, select a PDF from your computer, and wait for the file's thumbnail to appear under the prompt. Then, type and submit your question or request.

Tips:

  • When referring to specific pages of a PDF, use the page numbers as shown in your PDF viewer, not the numbers printed on the document itself.

  • If you're working with larger documents, you can split them into smaller files and upload each one separately to stay within the limits.
