Synthesia Launches Expressive Avatars 🤍

Source: Synthesia

Synthesia, an AI company backed by Nvidia, has announced the launch of its "Expressive Avatars" which can display human emotion.

Details:

  • Powered by the company’s new EXPRESS-1 model, the new avatars perform their script with the correct tone of voice, body language, and lip sync, very similar to a real actor.

  • Synthesia's AI-generated digital avatars can convey emotions based on text inputs from users. They can show happiness, sadness, frustration, excitement, etc.

  • The company’s technology is already being used by over 55,000 businesses for corporate presentations and training videos.

  • Synthesia has taken steps to ensure its technology isn't used for misinformation, including requiring its new clients to undergo a 'Know Your Customer' process to filter bad actors.

The "Expressive Avatars" could make corporate videos not just more cost-effective but more engaging as well. You can check Synthesia’s Expressive AI Avatars launch video to see them in action.

Invest before this company becomes a household name

What if you had the opportunity to invest in the biggest electronics products before they launched into big box retail, would you?

Ring changed doorbells and Nest changed thermostats. Early investors in these companies earned massive returns, but the opportunity to invest was limited to a select, wealthy few. Not anymore. RYSE has just launched in 100+ Best Buy stores, and you're in luck — you can still invest at only $1.50/share before their name becomes known nationwide.

They have patented the only mass market shade automation device, and their exclusive deal with Best Buy resembles that which led Ring and Nest to their billion-dollar buyouts.

Adobe's New AI Converts Blurry Videos to HD

Source: Adobe Research

Adobe researchers have developed an impressive new AI model called VideoGigaGAN that can take low-resolution video and upscale it to much higher resolutions with remarkable detail and clarity.

Details:

  • VideoGigaGAN is based on GigaGAN, which is really good at upsampling images.

  • It can increase video resolution by up to 8x, by adding more and better matching detail to the scene. This puts it ahead of the current best options.

  • However, since it adds details with AI, it can be said that the result is a video that is partially AI-generated and no longer fully represents reality.

Adobe has shared many samples on the VideoGigaGAN project website, where you can also find comparisons with other methods.

The company is likely to incorporate this model into its products soon, as it recently announced plans to integrate more generative AI into its video suite.

How to run Microsoft's new Phi-3 mini locally

You can run Microsoft’s new powerful open-source small language model, Phi-3 mini, locally and experience firsthand how this tiny AI model can match the performance of models many times its size.

Running it locally not only allows it to work 100% offline on your computer but is also great for privacy. Here’s how:

  1. Download and install LM Studio

It is a free, open-source software that will allow you to run any open-source AI model.

  1. Search for Phi-3 mini in the search bar

Select "microsoft/Phi-3-mini-4k-instruct-gguf" and then you will be shown two options on the right: ”Q4” and “fp16”.

Download the Q4 version; it's faster and half the size of the other one.

  1. Start using Phi-3

Click on the chat icon in the left-hand menu and create a new chat.

Make sure the Phi-3 model is the selected one in the top bar, and start writing your prompts.
