OPENAI

OpenAI and Trump Administration Reportedly Discuss Government Stake in the Company

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the Trump administration are reportedly discussing a potential arrangement that could give the U.S. government an ownership stake in the AI startup.

Details:

  • According to reports, discussions have been ongoing for more than a year, with Altman first raising the idea with the administration in 2025.

  • The talks reportedly continued this week as Altman met with lawmakers and government officials in Washington to discuss AI policy, regulation, and the future of the technology.

  • Some of that equity could be used to seed a "Public Wealth Fund" recently proposed by OpenAI, where proceeds "could be distributed directly to citizens, allowing more people to participate in the upside of AI-driven growth, regardless of their starting wealth or access to capital."

No formal agreement has been reached, and the structure, size, and terms of any potential government stake remain undecided. President Trump acknowledged the discussions, suggesting there are concepts being explored that could allow the American public to essentially become "a partner with the companies."

AI RESEARCH

AI Detects Early Warning Signs of Epilepsy Before Seizures Appear

Researchers have developed an AI system that can detect subtle brain wave patterns linked to epilepsy, even when no seizures are visible, potentially helping doctors identify the condition earlier and more accurately.

Details:

  • The AI analyzes EEG recordings and learns recurring patterns in brain activity, allowing it to detect signals that may be too subtle for clinicians to spot during manual review.

  • In a proof-of-concept study, researchers tested the system on mice with a genetic form of epilepsy caused by variations in the TSC1 gene.

  • The model was trained using EEG segments that contained no seizure activity, forcing it to identify differences based solely on underlying brain-wave patterns.

  • Despite the absence of seizures, the AI successfully distinguished between different genetic groups and detected epilepsy-related changes with high accuracy in most cases.

  • Researchers say the findings suggest that EEG recordings may contain early biomarkers of epilepsy, even when traditional diagnostic signs are not visible.

  • The next phase of the project will apply the technology to EEG recordings from children undergoing epilepsy evaluations, testing whether the approach can improve real-world diagnosis.

Earlier detection could help doctors begin treatment sooner, reduce uncertainty for families, and provide a clearer picture of how a patient's condition is progressing over time. Looking ahead, the team believes similar methods could be paired with wearable EEG devices for continuous monitoring and may eventually be adapted for other neurological conditions.

8 Microsoft Copilot Hacks That Make It Much More Useful

If you don't have the Copilot app, you can download it from the Microsoft Store. Alternatively, you can use the web version, though some features may not be available there.

  1. Turn off AI training

If you don't want your chats used as training materials to improve Microsoft's AI models, go to Settings → Privacy and disable training on voice conversations and conversation activity.

  1. Copilot connectors

Go to Settings > Connectors to connect Copilot to other services, so you can easily find, summarize, and act on information from them. Once connected, Copilot can work with emails, calendar events, and project files from those connected apps.

  1. Launch copilot faster

Use Win + C to open Copilot and jump straight into the chat box. You can also enable Alt + Space or "Hey Copilot" by going to Settings → Preferences.

  1. Let Copilot analyze what's on your screen

With Copilot Vision, you can share an open window and ask questions about images, videos, websites, documents, or landmarks displayed on your screen. To use this feature, open the Copilot app and click the spectacles icon near the chat box.

  1. Edit images with simple prompts

Like many other chatbots, Copilot also supports generative AI image editing. Upload an image and ask Copilot to remove backgrounds, adjust brightness, improve contrast, increase saturation, or make multiple edits at once.

  1. Microsoft provides some tips to help you get the best results when prompting Copilot

For stronger outputs, include:

  • A persona

  • An objective

  • A target audience

  • Clear parameters

  • Relevant context

For example: "You are a literary critic reviewing this short story for science fiction fans. Evaluate the pacing, clarity, and engagement level, and identify any confusing jargon."

  1. Try experimental features

Open the Experiments section in Copilot to be among the few to test features still in development. These preview features may change significantly or be removed altogether, but they are still great for those who enjoy trying new things.

Current examples include AI audio creation and one-click image-to-3D-model generation.

  1. Import AI Memory

Copilot can import data from other chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

Access this feature by going to Copilot Settings > Memory > Add or import memory.

This can help you avoid starting from scratch every time you switch between AI platforms. You can also similarly export your Copilot activity and memories.

A high-level meeting of Apple executives in early 2025 reportedly became a turning point in the company’s AI strategy after leaders concluded that its AI efforts were falling behind competitors. According to the report, the decisions made during that meeting helped shape Apple’s current AI roadmap and upcoming Siri overhaul.

Google has agreed to pay SpaceX $920 million per month from October 2026 through June 2029 for access to AI computing infrastructure, according to a regulatory filing. The agreement covers roughly 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs and related hardware and comes as Google says demand for its AI products has exceeded expectations.

Meta has repeatedly delayed the release of the API for its new AI model, Muse Spark, leaving developers without broad access nearly two months after its launch. The company says it is still testing the API with partners and plans to release it this month.
